Education: demand for French schools is strong
When it comes to schools in the UK, there are numerous decisions to make. Private or state? Mixed or single sex? French or English? It is completely normal for parents to panic and be confused about what is best for their children.
For French families there are also many French or bilingual French-English schools to choose from. Due to such a high demand for French schools, the college Francais Bilingue de Londres opened its doors in 2011 and a new school will open in Brent Town Hall in Wembley in 2015.
The new school will be modelled on London’s exclusive Lycee Francais Charles de Gaulle in South Kensington, which is regarded as one of the best French schools abroad. The opening of a new Lycee in Wembley is good news given the waiting lists at the French Lycee. It does, however, create worries among a few French families living in the UK who are uncertain whether their child will be able to go to school in South Kensington or have to cross half of London to go to Wembley. So why not choose the English system if you are planning to stay here for a number of years? It might even broaden your child’s horizon and who knows, perhaps the English Education system has some valuable lessons to teach.
