Exploring Female Wealth Psychology: “In Conversation With” a Psychologist & Mental Health Clinician

Written by Communications at MASECO

In this episode of In Conversation With, MASECO Partner and Head of Advanced Planning, Andrea Solana, is joined by Psychotherapist and Mental Health Clinician, Holli Rubin, for an open and reflective discussion on the psychology of money and the emotional relationship women can have with wealth.

Money is rarely just about numbers. It is shaped by life experience, identity, relationships and personal values, yet these emotional drivers are often overlooked in traditional financial conversations. In this episode, Andrea and Holli explore why our relationship with money is so deeply personal, how it develops over time, and why understanding these dynamics is particularly important for women.

Drawing on Holli’s clinical experience and Andrea’s work with clients at MASECO Private Wealth, the conversation looks at how women’s experiences of wealth can differ depending on background and circumstance – from generational wealth and inheritance, to divorce, career success and major life transitions. They discuss common themes such as control, confidence, anxiety and responsibility, and consider how these factors can influence financial decision‑making.

The episode also reflects on how advisers, families and institutions can better support women by creating space for open dialogue, education and empathy – helping to foster healthier, more empowered relationships with money.

This conversation forms part of MASECO Private Wealth’s Women’s Initiative, which aims to broaden the conversation around wealth by recognising the emotional as well as financial aspects of long‑term planning.
