Five Frightening Facts to Scare You into Action This Halloween
Written by Henry FindlaterWith Halloween approaching this weekend, a holiday celebrated largely in the US and increasingly in the UK, we thought we’d share five frightening facts about climate change, and what we are doing here at MASECO to help combat these issues.
- Within the next two decades, global temperatures are likely to rise 1.5 degrees Celsius.[1]
- The last seven years have been the warmest on record.[2]
- More than one million species are at risk of extinction by climate change.[3]
- There’s more carbon dioxide in our atmosphere than at any time in human history.[4]
- Sea levels are rising faster today than ever before.[5]
As a founding B Corp member, we endeavour to operate ethically and sustainably, and to demonstrate that this is at the heart of what we do. Here are some of the key ways we are striving to tackle these environmental issues.
Sustainable Portfolios
Since its inception, MASECO has been at the forefront of sustainable investing. It is an integral component of the portfolio options we offer our clients who wish to invest in a manner that is consistent with their principles and values. By aligning your investment strategy with your core beliefs, you can use your wealth as a force for good whilst accepting the repercussions sustainable investing may have on returns.
Doing Well by Doing Good
We are always looking for new ways to use our business as a force for a positive change in the world. We have a B Corp team who are currently reviewing our strategy by assessing our strengths and weaknesses for each section of the B Corp assessment areas, in order to improve every area and our overall B Impact score when we go through the recertification process in 2023.
The B-Corp team have regular meetings to review our strategy, along with our strengths and weaknesses, with a goal to improve on what we are already doing well. The team are constantly looking to continue to demonstrate our commitment to social and environmental responsibility and show that companies can reflect the values of their people and be a force for a positive change in the world.
We are always looking at ways to do what is right and to promote sustainable practices. As an example, in July we ran a campaign both internally and externally to raise awareness for ‘plastic free July’, in order to reduce the amount of plastic we produce, and to encourage people to particularly ditch single-use plastic.
We hope to continue to demonstrate our commitment to helping combat these issues and showcase that companies can reflect the values of their people and be a force for a positive change.
