Inaugural American Citizens Abroad (ACA) Town Hall evening
On Wednesday 27th November we sponsored the inaugural American Citizens Abroad (ACA) Town Hall evening at the Royal Over-Seas League Club in St James’s. Founded in 1978 the ACA is a non-partisan volunteer association whose mission is to defend the rights of Americans living overseas. The evening was well attended with around a hundred participants and an expert panel. Coleen Graffy, a former diplomat within the State Department chaired the event and did an outstanding job as the temperature of the debate heated up throughout the evening. Topics such as residence based taxation, new tax filing requirements and the 3.8% investment income tax were hotly discussed. The ACA has a presence on Capitol Hill so thoughts and comments that come from the grass roots actually do find themselves being heard in Washington.
We thought the evening was a great success and while the ACA has been hosting Town Halls in Geneva for many years we are delighted that they have decided to come to London where we know only too well that the voice of the American in London often goes unnoticed.
