National Recycling Week

Written by Henry Findlater

Today (Monday 20th September 2021) marks the commencement of the eighteenth National Recycling Week in the UK.

Recycle Week is Recycle Now’s flagship annual event which is a celebration of recycling across the nation. Now in its 18th year, it’s the one week of the year where retailers, brands, waste management companies, trade associations, governments and the media come together to achieve one goal: to galvanise the public into recycling more of the right things, more often.

Recycle Now announced their theme for this year’s awareness week as being ‘Step it Up’ stating,

“The Climate Crisis is a tough subject. But we’re a nation of even tougher subjects. The last 15 months have shown that. And while throughout the past year many things have happened over which we’ve had no control, the Climate Crisis is something we can actively do something about. Every one of us, every single day. Most of us already do, through small but powerful habits – like recycling. We know environmental concerns are still on the increase, so we need to do more. We need to do it now. And we need to act together. It’s time to join the fight against climate change. Step It Up this Recycle Week.

With our proven track record of tapping into national conversations and sentiments, this year’s Recycle Week is set to be a truly impactful national event.”

Listed on the Recycle Week website are a number of large scale businesses that have supported the cause, including fellow B Corporation certified business Innocent Drinks, as an example.

Throughout July at MASECO we ran a plastic awareness campaign in an attempt to do just as Recycle Now state, to actively do our bit, each one of us, every single day, looking to change habits to create a better future for future generations. It is habits such as recycling properly every day, along with others including eating sustainably and supporting sustainable businesses (more on this topic to come as we support ‘Organic September’) that will produce better outcomes for us all globally.
