Plastic Free July

Written by Henry Findlater

“The world uses over 500 billion plastic bags a year – that’s 150 for each person on Earth. 8.3 billion plastic straws pollute the world’s beaches, but only 1% of straws end up as waste in the ocean.”

Plastic is the number one product people use each day, despite how damaging it is to the environment. Plastic Free July is all about encouraging people to be more aware of their plastic use with an end goal of creating a cleaner world. Plastic Free July began in 2011 and was started by a handful of participants in Western Australia.  This campaign is about educating people on the subject, as well as individually doing our part to reduce the amount of plastic we produce. Here at MASECO we are taking part in the Plastic Free July challenge and are urging others to do the same.

Are you ready for the Plastic Free July challenge?

  • Make one plastic free swap throughout July
  • Reduce takeaway items – plastic bags, bottles, straws, and coffee cups
  • Pick one day to go entirely plastic free (this is harder than it sounds!)
  • 3rd July is plastic bag free day – go plastic bag free on 3rd July (and every other day throughout July!)

For more information check out Plastic Free July – Be Part of the Solution. We challenge everybody to make even one plastic free swap during July and #togetherwecanmakeadifference.
