Ashley Scher, CFP™
After graduating with honours from Washington University in St. Louis with a dual degree in Psychology and Educational Studies, Ashley took a serendipitous detour when she accepted an internship with MetLife in 2006. She found the work interesting and rewarding and quickly realized her background in psychology was equally relevant in financial services. Over the next few years, she gained relevant industry experience and credentials (including her Series 7, 63, 65 and insurance licenses) before relocating to the UK in 2009. She joined MASECO Private Wealth in 2010, bringing with her a strong US financial planning background.
Ever the curious student, she continued her studies in financial planning, earning the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM designation in 2011 and Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning in the UK in 2012. She went on to earn her MBA with merit from University of Warwick in 2015.
In 2016, Ashley and her partner Mark relocated to Asia with their family to launch MASECO Asia Limited, a separate regulated entity based in Hong Kong. She is currently a Co-Director of MASECO Asia. Pandemics notwithstanding, Ashley travels between Hong Kong, the UK, and the US to see clients in all three jurisdictions.
Ashley is specialised in complex insurance planning, particularly in relation to cross-border estate structuring. She independently maintains her US insurance licenses in several states and can help advise clients when they may face estate or inheritance tax exposure in more than one jurisdiction.
In her spare time…
Ashley is a fitness enthusiast and loves tennis, in particular. She enjoys spending time outdoors, either in her gardens at her home in Michigan or hiking around Hong Kong. A mom to five daughters, ‘spare’ time is rare, but she embraces the chaos of a big family and hopes to instil in her girls a commitment and passion to take care of our planet. Living as an expat for the last 15 years has cultivated in Ashley a love of travel and curiosity about other cultures that she pursues whenever she has an opportunity.
