Stephen Johnson
Originally from Rhode Island, Stephen moved to the UK in 2011 to pursue the Graduate Diploma in Law at City University London and later, an LLM at University College London (UCL). During his law studies, Stephen developed a particular interest in equity and trusts which segued into a career in private client tax focusing on High-Net Worth Individuals, particularly non-domiciliaries.
During his time as a tax adviser, Stephen worked at BDO and later, Blick Rothenberg where he qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser. During his time as a tax adviser, Stephen worked to advise a portfolio of clients on the structuring of offshore trusts, remittance planning strategies and complex investments. He also worked closely with counsel in the Upper Tribunal case of Ardmore v HMRC pertaining to the situs of debt.
In 2019, Stephen changed careers to join MASECO as a Senior Wealth Executive where he trained under Andrea Solana whilst sitting his professional exams to become a qualified wealth manager. Attracted to MASECO because of their position as market leaders in US/UK wealth management, Stephen enjoys the ability to become a client’s trusted adviser, helping to navigate the intricacies of investing tax-efficiently as an American living abroad of which he is too well aware!
In his spare time…
Stephen enjoys spending time with his wife and young son in South West London. When he has time, he plays cricket (badly), attends Harlequins rugby games and enjoys learning more about wines and their growers.
