The Next 12 Months at a Glance: Josh Matthews, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of MASECO, moderates 7th Annual Private Wealth UK Forum
Written by Josh Matthews, HBAJosh Matthews, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of MASECO, attended the 7th Annual Private Wealth UK Forum at the Landmark Hotel in London on 28th November 2023, acting as moderator for the opening session titled ‘The Next 12 Months at a Glance’.
The panel consisted of top thinkers and leading investors in the private wealth space, who shared their investment views about current UK asset allocation strategies and their projected macroeconomic outlook for the next 12 months. Appearing on the panel were Graham Bishop, Chief Investment Officer at Handelsbanken Wealth Management, Patrick Farrell, Head of Research and Chief Investment Officer at Charles Stanley & Co. and Sanjay Rijhsinghani, Chief Investment Officer at LGT Wealth Management.
During the panel discussion Josh posed number of questions on topics including inflation, monetary policy, interest rates, geopolitical risk and where should investors be investing, based on the current global macroeconomic environment.
The panellists discussed taking a diversified approach to investing due to the fact that unexpected global events could always potentially have an impact on portfolios and there is no way of knowing and being prepared for these events in advance.
It was also discussed that certain asset classes, including non-US equities and emerging markets equities, are inexpensive relative to historical valuations. In addition to this, small company stocks have not done well in the past year but are also trading, according to one of the panellists, at depression like valuations. At MASECO our investment approach is based on a belief in markets and, as evidenced*, we believe small companies should outperform large companies over a long period of time due to the small cap effect.
