World Environment Day - 5th June 2021

This is our moment.

We cannot turn back time. But we can grow trees, green our cities, rewild our gardens, change our diets and clean up rivers and coasts. We are the generation that can make peace with nature.

Let’s get active, not anxious. Let’s be bold, not timid."

UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

On 5th June MASECO celebrates World Environment Day. World Environment Day was created with the intention to shine a light on the importance of looking after the environment in which we all live. This year the theme is around Ecosystem Restoration. Ecosystem Restoration can happen in many ways, for example, actively planting or removing pressures so that nature can recover and return its ecosystem to its original state.
The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration states that, between now and 2030, the restoration of 350 million hectares of degraded terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems could generate $9 trillion in ecosystem services. The repair could also remove 13 to 26 gigatons of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. The economic benefits of such interventions exceed nine times the cost of investment, whereas inaction is at least three times more costly than ecosystem restoration.[1]

Here at MASECO we are proud to be able to demonstrate the strength of our commitment to being socially responsible, including putting a focus on the environment, as a founding company of the UK B Corp movement and the first financial services B Corp in the UK.

To become B Corp accredited the process ensures that companies do not just aspire to do good whilst doing well, but have incorporated within the fabric of how the business operates the basic tenet of reflecting the values of their people and being a force for a positive change in the world.
We ensure that the growth of our business directly benefits not just our team or our partners but also the wider world and the environment.
Behind the scenes we are constantly seeking ways to reduce our environmental footprint and, to support positive change, we also take responsibility for the impact of our operations by choosing approaches that are as environmentally friendly as possible. This helps to make our community a better place. Finally, we engage with our team by looking at how we work and live to protect our environment and look for new ways to use our business as a force for good.
It is time we all take a moment and reflect on how we could all help and support the ecosystem and we look forward to sharing further insights as we approach World Environment Day 2021.
